Charyn Canyon National Park

The Charyn Canyon National Park is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kazakhstan. A giant fault in the earth's crust, about 154 kilometers long and up to 300 meters deep, is breathtaking in its beauty and scale. The most unique thing is that you can view the canyon from the upper observation platforms and immediately go down deep into the canyon to the big Charyn River with its incredibly blue color and cool mountain water. It is this river and the strong wind that constantly blows in the steppe that made such beautiful and diverse forms of high walls and towers of the canyon.

In one day you will see the canyon from different sides. It has different shapes and colors of the breed: black, yellow, gray and red.

Charyn National Park is a natural area protected by the state. The park is constantly monitored by inspectors who keep order. Indeed, in the park there are rare animals, birds, reptiles and plants that are world heritage and are listed in the Red Book

The tour starts at the hotel. Early in the morning you will meet your guide in the lobby of your hotel or apartment in Almaty city.

The guide will tell you about the trip plan, check the availability of the necessary things, give an introductory briefing and take you to the car on which you will go on a private jeep tour.

While you will travel outside the city, the guide will tell you the history of the country, region and historical data about the city of Almaty.

Most of the way will pass along the picturesque highway along the Tien Shan mountain range.

There will be sanitary stops along the way and a coffee break if needed.

The path is very beautiful and varied. The road stretches along the Tien Shan mountain range, through the passes.

Once outside the city of Almaty, you go to the highway running along the Ili River. Just along this route in the 13th century the "Great Silk Road" passed from the borders of China to Europe.

You will pass by different villages that are distinguished by their craft. Some of them grow grapes, others make wine from these grapes, and so on. Each village has its own craft.

Also, changing landscapes will fill the fields and herds of domestic animals grazing on them. You will pass the Uighur bazaar where locals bake homemade bread and other pastries.

The Kokpek mountain pass is where two tectonic plates meet. You will climb up and after passing the pass, you will be 300 meters above the starting point. At this moment, a real boundless steppe will open up to your eyes. Snow-capped mountain peaks will be seen in the distance, and 40 minutes of travel will remain to the canyon.

Upon arrival at the canyon, the first thing you do is view the canyon from the upper observation decks.

You can also opt for the two day canyon tour options to visit the most unique and remote parts of the canyon. Accommodation in a country-style log house in a prehistoric grove of relic Sogdian ash, the breed of which survived the glaciation era.

After a panoramic view, you will descend 1.5 kilometers deep into the canyon, where you will find yourself on the banks of the picturesque Charyn River with cool water and a refreshing breeze.

An individual jeep tour is not limited in time, usually 3-4 hours inside the canyon are enough for a comfortable stay. On the way back you will be taken by ecotaxi back to your car.

The return journey also takes 2.5 - 3 hours along the picturesque route and by 19:00 you will arrive at the hotel.
