Petroglyphs, rock paintings on the Ili River

The Tamgaly (Tanbaly) gorge is one of the most ancient and prominent monuments of rock art in the Semirechye region, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Located in the Chu-Ili mountains, this site contains around 5,000 petroglyphs dating back to the Bronze Age (14th–13th centuries BC), the Early Iron Age, and the Turkic period. The most famous images include unique "sun-headed" deities, disguised figures, warriors, and wild animals. It is an authentic ancient open-air sanctuary that offers a direct glimpse into the ritual culture of early nomads.

* 09:00 — Departure to the petroglyphs from Almaty

We meet you at your hotel or apartment doors, get acquainted, and head northwest from the city. The road passes through the steppe landscapes of the Almaty region.

* 11:00 — Arrival at the petroglyphs. Tour and free time

We arrive at the territory of the state historical, cultural, and natural reserve-museum. A walking tour of the main groups of petroglyphs awaits you. You will explore the famous rock galleries, ritual areas, and ancient burial grounds, with plenty of free time for sightseeing and detailed photography.

* 13:00 — Departure to Almaty

We gather at the vehicle and begin our journey back toward the city.

* Lunch along the way or BBQ (optional)

During the return trip, we will make a pause for lunch. At your request, this can be a stop at a roadside cafe serving local cuisine or an outdoor barbecue picnic in the countryside.

* 16:00 — Arrival in Almaty
